This is traditional gospel arranged by Tom Waits. This number (the very last 13th track!) comes from the John Hammond "Wicked Grin" CD. Tom Waits' backing vocal singing on this track reminds you the famous definition of his voice, by critic Daniel Durchholz, as sounding "like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car.." Well, in my opinion, it is a terrific song and I tried my best to make a good visual background to it by pictures of these two great musicians.
The devil aint just conveniant , poetic , lyrical , fodder for tom waits ...if you think he's just playing ...your mistaken -no matter what he says.

For me..it's Waits or nothing. Nothing against Mr. Hammond, it's just that Tom puts a stamp down that cannot be challenged...although I hear Tom in the background adding some gravitas to this.
