South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford speaks candidly at the Aiken Republican Club meeting in Aiken, SC, on Monday, May 18, 2009. In his speech, he referred to the South Carolina Republican Party's State Convention on Saturday, May 16.

He addressed the 2009-2010 state budget and federal stimulus money. Many state legislators do not understand the need to prioritize spending, reduce spending in non-critical areas, and apply extra monies to pay off debt.

Governor Sanford is a constitutionalist, is a fiscal conservative, fights for state's rights, and advocates limited government. This platform alone makes him a serious contender for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in 2012.

The first person to ask a question from the audience is Diane Giddings, State Executive Committeewoman from the Aiken County Republican Party. A resolution passed by the party at their April 24 County Convention was hand-delivered to the Governor after this speech.
