Our family vacation to Crazy Hose Memorial in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The Volksmarch as it is called is a 10 kilometre hike up to the face of Crazy Horse

well, you can see mt. rushmore from the road too but people still pay to get in. there's also the extensive indian museum of north america there, and the cultural center where native american's are selling their artwork and such, and there are constant demonstrations of native american dance in the traditional costumes. it's a real chance to learn about the culture and history about them from first hand people. it's not just a mountain carving, and a lot of people don't realize that.

ridiculous? really? there are 8 people working on the mountain..and it's larger than an egyptian pyramid..of course it's going a little slow but they do what they can, when they can.

@SkylerCowley ...That is pretty inaccurate. I know the family. The government has offered them funding multiple times, but they have turned it down because they feel it's wrong to take money from the same government that oppressed the native Americans. Similarly, they do hire experts to work on the mountain alongside the family (whom I have also met).

@Amelia424 - Agreed - I am white and not of America - I have looked at the history of Crazy Horse all over the place and for along time - Where is the evidence that Crazy Horse had a white father or mother? - or are too many people watching and believing the discovery channel. There is absolutely no evidence to support that stupid argument at all - of course I say this to the best of my knowledge but if that ere true - nothing could take from the spirit of Crazy Horse no matter what - admiration

@deuhtsiv Stupid and ignorant comment - whats yer problem - people giving respect and paying homage to a great chieftain in admiration is stupid in your opinion? - what qualifies you to say something like that - is because you feel that because in some way that because people admire they aren't in touch or uninterested in the past or do you feel that you own it? - Do something of note and you will be noticed too - you owe that much to your argument and stop moaning - not very 'brave' is it!

@pmkzero5 - What did they go by to make this Memorial of Crazy Horse?I heard that their were no pictures of Crazy Horse.The ones shown are thought to be another Warrior.Also a family who knew Crazy Horse said this photo is not him because for one he said Crazy Horse would never willingly pose for a Photo;because he believed the Spirit would be trapped in the photo.He also said Crazy Horse did not wear the Eagle Feathers;that he only wore a single feather,the feather of a Hawk.
