St. Jude is the first institution established for the sole purpose of conducting basic and clinical research into catastrophic childhood diseases. Right now, fruit flies are actually being used in cancer cell research.

I work a cell signaling pathways that interoperates signals from neighboring cells."

Dr. Stacey Ogden is developing new therapies to treat pediatric cancers. Shes using the cells from fruit files to figure out how signals get from point A to point B.

This process frequently breaks down in cancer and then you have inappropriate cell growth or cell divisions, Dr. Ogden-St. Jude Researcher.

The goal is to effectively treat cancer without hurting healthy cells near the tumor.

"It really is a passion. It's fun to watch. All of these individuals have a PHD an MD. Some of them have both. They come to St. Jude and spend several years in labs or in clinics to do research. They work with our facility because they know its a premier facility, Tonna Bruce-St. Jude Recruiter.

St. Jude prides itself on its bench to bedside research. What's learned here is applied here. Without your financial support this life saving research wouldn't be able to continue. Its not about just helping children with cancer. It's about helping anyone with a catastrophic disease.

What we learn about this pathway can help treat children with brain cancer it can also be used to help adults with lung cancer, potentially, Dr. Ogden.

Its this potential that keeps the passion to find a cure alive and well at St. Jude.

We appreciate every person who is involved with St. Jude in anyway because it translates into the research and the patient care here that makes a difference, Bruce.

The medical and scientific staff published more academic journals in 2008 than any other pediatric cancer research center in the U.S.
