This video was filmed from the handlebars of my motorcycle on the way home Friday, June 16th riding through Wyoming on Interstate 25, a cool 48 degree morning around 7:30am MT with a cloudy overcast threatening rain.
The speed limit through this section is 75 mph, when we encountered the Antelope we slowed down to 55 mph. After the incident was over and we got to our next fuel stop, I was asked by a couple of the riders why I didn't swerve. I asked them what direction would they had swerved? I told them I was looking at a frightened moving target who was desperately attempting to regain his footing because he wanted out of there as badly as I wanted him out of there. Which way was he going to go??? I chose to remain calm, got a firm grip on the handle bars and locked my knees in tight against the tank and braced myself. I prepared myself for a last second swerve (if needed) in either direction; as well as I had thoughts of rolling on the throttle at the last second to lift the front end of the bike in case of impact (worst case scenario). I did not want to swerve too soon as I was concerned of over dedicating myself in the wrong direction or him catching me in the midst of the swerve and taking me out.
In the video you will see the Antelope run out, then stumble and fall a couple of times. By the time the 3rd motorcycle reached him he was laying on the road spread eagle, as the 4th motorcycle reached him he was already on the other side of the road. When the 5th motorcycle passed him he was looking back at the group as if wondering what had just happened. By the time the 9th motorcycle was up by him he was running parallel with the group keeping up with us at 55mph before he turned off and headed back across the prairie. I am very happy to report that all 9 riders and Antelope are safe and unharmed.
As we rode this out it seemed to take forever, life was definitely in slow motion. When I go back now and watch the video at real time speed it amazes me as to how quickly it actually all happened.
Wyoming is AWESOME!!!! Jackson, Cody, Sheridan and the Wind River reservation!!! Wyoming is the last "best place" in the continental USA!!!

just got back from a 10,000 mile trip; hundreds upon hundreds of close encounters with birds, but no contacts; I think it's the fact that I lay off the trottle immediately and this changes the pitch and causes the birds to veer off

that is what we call a daredevil here... it doesnt matter what it is a motorcycle or an 18 wheeler those WILL run out in front of it... probably for thrills or suicide... i have lived in Wyoming for all my 20 years and still havent figured it out.

You told me about this incident when I met you on the road near Dallas. I'm the one on the GoldWing with the recumbent bike on the trailer. I'm still on that same trip & plan to correspond with you about your handlebar video system when I finally get home.
