This is a tutorial about making an Arduino board on a breadboard! It is useful to be able to do this as its much cheaper once you have the infrastructure to use it (cables, tools ect...) and if it breaks a replacement isn't that expensive. This video is also the first of the arduino workshop projects in which I will make fun 30 minutes arduino projects. I spent a while making this video so I hope you enjoy it.

BREADBOARD JUMPERS!!! GET THEM AT RADIOSHACK IN A KIT!!!!

SOME FORM OF DC POWER SUPPLY 7.5V to 10v (wall power supply, battery ect...)

TOOLS, SOLDERING IRON, WIRE SNIPPERS, WIRE STRIPPERS, VOLT METER (Optional but I would get it to test conections)

You can pick where you want to buy these tools if you don't already have them.

  • Can you add a schematic.

  • I don't have a schematic up for this but there are other websites that should have identical or very similar schematics up. Just google arduino breadboard and you will find my video along with several other links. Most of those other links will have schematics.

  • The first step in this setup should be loading the boot-loader assuming you have started with a raw chip. Otherwise I don't see the point of this.

  • In the video description I linked a bootloaded chip see the pink dot on top of the chip that signifies that it has been loaded with a bootloader. If not then the board isn't pointless either just connect the mk ii avr programmer to it along with power and it will be bootloaded in a minute.

  • @Halo2maniaccc, you can't buy that chip any more...

  • Hmm I didn't see that...At least sparkfun left the product page up so that people can find a suitable replacement elsewhere. Though I'm not a fan of paying an extra $2 for a bootloader that is burnt by the dozens every few minutes I would just buy an avr mkii lol $30 for the peace of mind...well worth it.

  • That's because either your speakers suck, your computer can't handle the video quality, or your flash player version is buggy. Your the first person out of 40,000 viewers that has complained everyone else has been able to understand perfectly. With 40,000 to 1 odds do you think that you are the problem or the video is the problem? I'll let you work out the math :)

I suggest you watch it again on a different computer!

  • I fu**ing LOVE the internet. You can watch videos of sneezing panda's or actually learn some cool stuff. I say view counts don't matter, how many people like it does. Anyone intelligent enough to search for this stuff obviously is smarter than the average bear. Just for fun, lookup any government run youtube channel, nothing but red dislikes, haha.

  • I built this and I can get bootloader to load but can not get any programs to load. I am using Arduino 0022, also wanting to program ATTiny85 chips but, can not until the loading problem is solved. Any ideas what is happening?

  • @Halo2maniaccc

Great tutorial! I have a question. I have the UNO rev3 and I'm trying to build this board. But when I try uploading the blink program I get the error "avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00". I'm not sure why its not responding. The programmer option is currently on AVR ISP, board type as UNO and serial COM is selected as the one which the serial to USB converter appears under in my device manager.

  • $19 in ebay free shipping and don´t waste my time ... :/

  • @jwolff1181 --or-- @ Halo2maniaccc. PLEASE, please, could you document the USB interface to replace the Serial in the original Video ? Any link where I could see how to implement the solution?

Could you reply to: ron.dacosta@gmail{.}com Thanks in advance for your contributions here.

  • can i just put the chip in an ardunio to progroam? then take it out?

  • @Halo2maniaccc So if i accidentally connect one of the caps on the 16mhz clock crystal to positive will that fry the crystal? or possibly something else?

  • sorry for the answer, but when i plug the arduino on the pc,which board I must select?

    :S duemilanove?
