As Barack Obama, the US president, weighs whether or not to send more troops to Afghanistan, there are questions as to whether the US approach is actually working.

The United States' involvement in Afghanistan dates back to 1979. That is when Jimmy Carter, the former president, approved covert operations to support local fighters against the Soviet invasion.

One of the architects of that programme was national security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski.

Josh Rushing sat down with him to get his take on the war, and finds out why he thinks the US made an error during the Afghan elections.
