its illegal because to preform the serve you have to strike the feathers. That's how you get the spin. And the rules state that you have to hit the cork first

@iceymanjack The serve isn't legal anymore in world badminton federation standings. It's called the sidek serve and was used a long time ago, the serve made the sidek brothers a very dominant force in doubles. Even after banning the serve sidek brothers were still amazing.
