The dialogoue doesn't seem to mesh with the critter. I think that's the biggest problem with it.

10 seconds after meeting this guy, the captain s thinking "ok, i wont blow you up, you're not attacking me"
1 minute "hmm, you're annoying, do you know shakespeare and took his acting to an awful level?"
3 minutes "DIE, Just DIE!". (captain kills the owa by speaking in slang)

one thing I didn't like, a plothole....one of the artifacts you get is for upgrading Owa ships....but you'll never have any Owa ships to upgrade...unless there's a secret way to get them to join you!

This was probably the worst alien DESIGN. A rubber thingy with two q-tips stuck in it.
Also neither funny or particularly interesting.
And you can't do anything much with them.
Another F- of a race I fear.

I dunno, the idea of a kind of octopus made of flexible, freeform mercury-like substance that can reform when broken up is pretty neat to me. Although who knows if that's what they were going for here. :O
And also they were incredibly obnoxious otherwise.

Aaah, did you ever play Ascendancy? It had a race called the Fludentri like that. Although that barely figured into the game (their talent was ship repair), they where described as a semi-fluid aquatic lifeform that could be broken up and reknit in seconds. And lock onto things with great strength.
Thats however never what I imagined with the Owa though. They just look like a rubber widget with q-tips stuck in it, sadly.

I did! I loved Ascendancy, so since I was playing that around the same time as playing this, I think I visualized the Owa like the Fludentri a bit. :D
