TFH presents Charles Dickens' THE CHRISTMAS CAROL with Vincent Price

In 1949 Vincent Price hosted a half-hour compressed adaptation of the Dickens classic for tv syndication. It's pretty cheap and isn't going to erase any memories of the superlative 1951 Alastair Sim version (or even the 1954 tv special with music by Bernard Herrmann), but it's a seldom-seen curiosity and this is the season for it. Price looks like he's in makeup for The Baron of Arizona. Look for Jill St. John as one of the Cratchet children under the name Jill Oppenheim. Coproducer Mike Stokey later created the popular tv shows Pantomime Quiz and Stump the Stars.

This is terrible but I'm glad you posted it. It's a priceless trip down memory lane. 1949! Even before the Sim version, which seemed old when I was a child. It seems like this cast had 1 day rehearsals, or none at all. The ghost of X'mas Present was especially poor, but the entire cast looked like they were reading their lines without acting them. Scrooge's final laugh was ludicrous and the omission of the final scene where Scrooge pretends anger at Cratchit robs the piece of closure.
