Test track session with a ten-car version of MTH's R-62 subway set. For this run, the non-powered cars are equipped with short non-operating couplers so the cars ride a realistic distance apart. The two powered cars (first snd seventh in the train) are unmodified.

At the conclusion of the test a battery failure prevented the second power unit from coming out of neutral, so some repairs are in order. Oh well, I did construct this track to find mechanical issues within my collection.

  • how much can i buy the whole thing 4?

  • @wwemtalover123

    (two-year-old answer)

"You can Google for, or search Ebay for item number 30-2671-1

I can guarantee that where I got these, they don't have any more. O-Gauge companies don't make a warehouse full of trains and wait for them to sell. They only produce slightly more than what their dealer network orders.

Unless you know a particular set isn't going to be popular, you try to get it when it ships to dealers"

In other words, lots of luck finding 10 cars for under a grand.

  • a batery failure in the second unit makes it more realistic. all those tiny straphangers were delayed.

  • @gaydanzig

The second unit did actually fail after I shot this video. That's why you see it by itself in the yard in a number of videos I posted after this. I did get it fixed after a while, but I don't remember what the problem was.

  • I like the realistic third rail one's runs on real dc power the motor trucks are real with a real third rail show. The trucks w/9 or 10 pounds and the car-Body is 22ib for sure fully detailed coast $3000 a set it's only 2 car set and 30' of track very complicated to put together bcuz the fish plate that hold the rails together air resl

  • I love this set. Thanks for posting. I love the announcements and the door chimes. So real. Was this set up in your basement or an attic or extra room?

  • @RailRide oh ok, imagine a long island RR trains set or even a PATH train set those would also look nice

  • @bluer68

Yes, I have the R142. In fact you commented on my video of it three days ago.

  • @RailRide thanks for the info. Do you have a R142 set? too bad MTH doesnt have a R68, R44, R46 or even the new R143/R160s those would look nice as train sets too

  • @bluer68

If running at full power (command control:18-20 volts) and your hands are wet (and you are also touching a ground) , you might get a tingle. If on the other hand you get a metal watchband across it and an outside rail, you could get it hot enough to cause burns before the circuit breaker kicked in.

  • @RailRide well, since the third rail is dangerous on the REAL subway tracks, I'm sure that touching the LIVE rail on even the toy train set can give you a shock or a funny sensation of electricity through your body

  • @bluer68

    1. Yes

    2. Not intentionally, but it happens (for the same reasons).
