okay totally gonna sound like a geek here but the 015 and 017 were different in more ways than the glossy finish. The 017 had 20 frets total and the 015 only had 19 total frets. This is due to the fact that on the 015 the sound hole is slightly higher up than it was on the 017 (this is the case on all 15 and 17 series guitars from that era.) This makes a difference in the sound because the X brace was placed in a different spot on the 15 and 17 series guitars.

that said, the only difference between the 0-15 and 0-17 was that the 17 has a glossier finish...

I have two videos on Utube - one is of my 1944 0-17 and the second is of my 1940 00-17. I thought it would be good for folks to be able to compare the sound of each model being played with same tune and recorded under identical condition.

great sound! which do you prefer, your 00 or 0 body? I'm looking into getting one of the two. Does this one have scalloped braces? I think '44 was a bit of a sketchy year for knowing for sure, but your 00 seems so much louder, or is that just 'cause of the body size?

The 00-17 is louder of the two guitars but the 0-17 also holds its own for the small body size. For some reason this particular 00-17 sounds really good in double dropped D. The 0-17 sounds great in standard tuning. The 0-17 has scalloped bracing, its an early 44 before they shifted later that year into production of tapered braces rather than scalloped. These guitars vary a lot in terms of their unique sound print, I'd go for best sounding one that you can find rather than 0 vs 00.
