  • He was an inspiration to Glenn Beck.

  • This is what preceded Jerry Springer and Geraldo Rivera and this blows both away. This is where sensationalism, violence, lewdness and insulting guests and each other began in tv talk shows.

Springer and later rivera copied more the show '9 broadcast plaza' later named the 'Richard Bey show' Downy had way more social issues, where Bey was more cheating, fights, and couples fighting, but some reason they even played games on that show..... it was of secaucus, NJ, came on channel 9 in nyc... have you ever heard of that show? its hard to find ppl who have.

  • I used to watch the Morton Downey back in the late 1980's when I was a young man.He was fun to watch.

  • You mean he was an inspiration to Wally George

  • Like it or not...he was a cultural Icon for the 80s and suited the times. To me...it was just entertainment. So was Sterns early show...and at the same time Rush (lush Bimbo) also had a TV show at the time...then after all that...Friday night videos (heavy metal bands) came on. Ahhhh my youth!

  • Wow. He makes Hannity and O'Reilly like sissies.

  • classy.

  • Mort was a decent guy off camera. He liked to sing, pretty good too. I was a piano player in a Chicago joint that Mort used to come to. He smoked himself to death. Too bad. Nice guy.

  • MDJ's show was very trashy, but looking back I think it would be too intelligent for even today's audience, who are more dumbed down than ever.

It's easy to sit back and watch two rednecks fighting over the same girl, or some ghetto trash getting her 12th paternity test.

But MDJ presented trash that made you think about the issues. That's what's missing today, and sadly it's never coming back. :(
