...he got the same level of stevie wonder , usher, ne-yo's soul but he has the edge and range of a rock star...you put these 2 things together and you have this phenomenon of a singer...lets not forget that james with only 19/20 years was already singing like a dam real pro soul artist....dam you can tell i love this dude.

..so to me i think he woudnt be so unique if he hasnt that raspiness because these days what you see more is white dudes singing like if they were black...lots of runs and rifts...but wheres the feelin??....anywhere...just boring...you need to have that 'rhhhhhhhh' in those voices to sound and make you go 'wow'...hes distinct because of that...

..dont know why but the singers who seems to have sand in their throats when they sing, seem to sound more passioned about it.. it adds such feeling and a sexy edge to it..james is a like stevie wonder on a head cold, in the good way..he got the best of the 2 worlds..lot of soul in one hand and the raspiness that barely black singers have it...those 2 features make him that unique singer that he is...

@AutisticPerception Exactly...he got such notion of what he is doin in every single note he sings... though some people think that only the singers who had some throat problem ended up sounding like that, actually there are people who naturally were born with it....when a singer knows how to sing and naturally have that raspiness and breathy voice i think it adds even more passion and feeling...

@xcarmox I think the same as you. If you hear his range and agility with that raspiness to his voice. His breath control and control of his voice . I think hed be even better without the damage or raspiness. He has an amazing talented and Voice. He'd be Amazing either way.

he's just passionate, although his voice is damaged from a sickness he suffered as a child. Without that damage he wouldn't have a raspy voice and would be a completely different singer.
