Take about 100 gms of toor dall, wash it thoroughly, and add cut peices of tomatoes to it.. add about 250 ml of water and cook it in a pressure cooker for about 6 to 7 minutes.

Remove from cooker and place on heater / stove and heat to a boil .. then add curry leaves, about one tea spoon full of salt and about two teaspoon full of rasam powder ( get it at any indian grocery ) ...heat to a boil (
dont boil for too long lest the flavour
gets lost ) remove from flame and add lime juice ..about two table spoons and mix ...Then in a small ladle take about one teaspoon full of pure ghee, heat, and when hot, add 1/4 spoon of black mustard seeds, 1/4 spoon of jeera and a pinch of hing ( asafoetida ) .. add the hot contents to the rasam and mix well ..add chopped cilantro
then
EAT !
( note: this rasam would be thick and you could alter the quantities of all the ingredients to suit your individual preference .. also it is best to make your
own rasam powder ... and the tadka is very very important .. makes all the difference .. )

  • glad you tried it and it came out very well.. if your mum also enjoyed it then you probably have the 'nala's hand ( nala of Kalidas' Nala and Damayanti ) .. thank you for letting me know .cheers ! :-)

  • Namaste uncle, I just made this and we thoroughly enjoyed it with rice, papad and okra potato fry. Such a satisfying meal, all thanks to you.

Please also show in detail how you manage to use a container inside the cooker, it always intrigues me. Thank you.

  • i'm so glad you all enjoyed it so much ! thank you for letting me know;as regards the pressure cooker,if i understand right here is the answer.. you need a cooker of at least 5 lts capacity.. pour into the cooker about 500 ml of water, you take whatever vegetables you need to cook in another vessel with the required water, place it inside the cooker, put the weight valve and heat till the pressure builds up and starts to release; then bring the flame to simmer for 5mts & turn off..thats it !:)

  • The amount of daal is too much and we should add asafotida ( Better use the solid ones ) and tamarind paste is not added . You can one green chillies and a small quatity of shredded ginger ,
