I don't know why, but this comes across as so authentic and real. It uses so many cliches and sounds like so many other musicians, but somehow overcomes the cliches to sound original and fresh. I do wonder if the image and presentation is part of the reason. But musically, it still seems to have a certain heartfelt authenticity missing in so much music these days.

I think that perhaps I should not have used the word 'cliche' ... a better word would be 'trope', that we are all familiar with the tropes of singer/songwriter acoustic guitar singing style music but somehow, out of this familiarity comes something totally unfamiliar, new, exciting and touching.
