FFXI Scale model #2.
85 day project Windurst Walls. Please view fullscreen and with the sound turned up and don't be fooled with the false ending ;).
Althought this took 85 days to create I actually started planning and drawing in December 2010 and started making it in March. About 90% of this is made from insulation foam used in the building and construction business. The water is simulated countryside water for modellers poured onto plexi-glass (perspex) which is covering the underwater ruins. The tree skeleton was gardening wire and modeling clay coated in paper mashe and a thick layer of pigmented glue, plaster, water and caulk. The tree folliage is a mixture of modelers tree folliage, scenic grass, artificial moss fibers, glue and 2 cans of hair laquer. The cardian was mostly plasticine. The lights in the houses are small LEDs. The wiring for this proved to be a major headache 9the switch can be seen on the video at the middle edge of the model covered with a little masking tape. I originally wanted fiber-optics for the 'plants lights' outside the little houses but couldn't find any :(.
There is a lot of detail missing in this model (steps infront of the houses) and afew tables with pots and the surrounding trees on the edge of the map but I did add flowers to the best of my ability.
Total cost was £382 of which some materials wasn't used. I hope u enjoy this as I did making it.

  • How much did this cost you (Estimated) to make?

  • @StolenLettuce The total cost is in the description.

  • It really is wonderful craftsmanship, but the major question that continued to ring through my mind was, "Why?"

  • @Erador Thank you. In response to 'Why?'... There is no real reason but I was standing around San d'Oria in September 2010 thinking of somthing to do. I began looking at the architecture in the Victory Square's main archway and it hit out of the blue (I wonder what this place would look like in real life), I've mentioned before that this was a Forrest Gump moment. i did afew drawings and before long I started building a scale model. This lead to ultimately doing all three cities (or part of).

  • Noob question: What did you use for the water? O.o;

  • @NailaX A sheet of perspex (plexiglass) covered with simulated water used by scenic modelers.

  • Now, put a musicplayer in it, and a switch on the bottom.

  • Work of truly epic proportions for a truly epic game. I can feel the life flowing through every inch of your masterpieces. You have monumentalized something gentle. Thank you!
