I really don't mind Dick Van Dyke's bad accent. Yes... it's not very close to a cockney accent but his interpretation of Bert is so heartwarming, that I couldn't care less. ;)

One thing that HSM has going for it is that it isn't predicated on unassailable class stratification, with impoverished manual laborers singing and dancing like they aren't living a full-on hellish existence. Old Burt should have been dropping bombs down the chimney's of London's urban gentry.

I sing along with Dick Van Dyke's American-Cockney-Irish-Austrialian accent but when Julie Andrews comes in, I stop and sit in silent appreciation because she lost her singing voice in a throat operation in 1997
