http://www.dslrfilmnoob.com/2011/05/19/art-usb-dual-preamp-camera-mount-adapter/ The ART usb dual pre amp is a cheap and easy way to add gain and phantom power to a camera rig.

This ART usb device has a lot of great features, including XLR/1/4 inputs, phantom power, headphone amplifier, and USB audio interface. That's a lot of features for such a small device.

Unfortunately this wasn't designed for filming. I actually had to drill holes in the bottom of the aluminum case in order to adapt it to a standard cold shoe mount.

The audio pre amps aren't going to change the world but for the price it's a good source of gain with a lot of features for a $70 price tag. You can spend a lot more on other options and you won't get nearly as many features.

If your interested you can pick one up here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002KEAT78/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=d...

  • Is the noise you speak of added to the monitor/output signal, or to the preamp/input signal? I'm considering buying this just to feed my studio monitors

  • @prom3th I'm going to revisit this test. I think the cable I used might have been botched. I did some recording with it on my MKH-60 and AT4073a the other day and didn't have any hiss I had in this video.

  • Guys, please don't judge the audio from this device from the clips in this video. The guy making it should really have used his lavalier mic rather than the shotgun. The shotgun sound is badly edited. The pre's on this guy are VERY clean. I've used it on a number of projects now and I'm very happy with the results. I've linked to a corporate video I made using the ART usb dual pre with a lavalier mic. /watch?v=9Ss8-GoFw2w

  • @ChrisGallimoreMusic There was no editing on the Shotgun mic audio. That is exactly what was recorded at the camera. The pre's on the Art are clean enough but they get noise as you add more gain. Part of the problem is that the Azden shotgun doesn't put out a strong signal. The gain from the Art is turned up to boost the levels and it's pre's show through. If you use this with a wireless mic that has a much stronger output, you will effectively mask the noise in the arts gain.

  • what are you doing/using to record your audio when you're not demonstrating the preamp? It sounds really good

  • @beaurosario Info is in the description.

  • I think the audio from whatever you were hooked into with the lav mic sounded much better.

  • so im a n00b and i just bought this, but i have no idea how to play my guitar through the pre amp into fl studio... anyone care to share some knowledge?

  • Liked the video. I'm confused about the 1/4 monitor out though. Isn't that a line level output? Wouldn't that create a problem going into a DSLR mic level input?

  • If anybody could open this thing up and send me pics of the insides Send me a messege. I'm going to buy one in a month or so and I want to see if there is anything obvious I could do to it to improve the sound quaility.

  • @VexedFilms Right, basically using phantom power, it's noisy. With the NTG-2 on battery power, this unit is clean and great ;)

  • @MrOchre its performing perfectly with the ntg-2 battery powered. Are you on phantom power?

I have the ART running into the Zoom H1 ;)

  • @VexedFilms How noisy! I have Rode NGT-2 and feeding it into Tascam DR100. Been rather disappointed with results. Are you still feeling the Art USB pre a piece of junk, because so far it seems my best solution.

  • very informative, well produced, and entertaining video, subscribed :)
