  • grammar is far more important. :-)

  • I, too, was particularly moved by this speech, and the only time I had ever heard it (until now) was from watching the show itself back in 2001. But I never forgot his words. I thought they were OUTSTANDING, and I felt like I was receiving more support from Steven here than many of my own family members.

THANK YOU for posting! I've literally been looking for this clip for years!

  • You're so welcome!! Yeah, he absolutely blew me away at a time when I needed it so badly. So often we end up creating in a vacuum and feel like we're not worth anything because of that... on this night, I felt appreciated. :-)

  • That's what cinema really is... art, and a lot of people can't get it, is nothing more than Art.

  • ang lee should have won this, he won the golden globe, bafta, directors guild, so how did he not win the oscar

  • Is there a video of when his name was announced or was his speech so short that this is pretty much all of it.

  • This is the coolest acceptance speech ever. If I ever won this I'd probably say something very similar, I feel this need to acknowledge every great film that didn't get nominated for anything. Get annoyed at people who see to think there's a formula to making a good movie. I'll be referencing anything that inspired me to wanna make films myself, or something I grew up watching and helped shape who I am or I love watching.

So be prepared to hear about Wayne's World and other 90s films. And SNICK

  • perfect

  • soderbergh is a true artist

  • i'm just curious did he get a standing ovation for this film, it was a good piece of directorial work, i hope he got the respect he deserve and got at least a standing ovation.

  • This is fantastic. It captures what the oscars are really about.

  • I always loved this guy's work, but this speech somehow makes it all sweeter.

Gonna go watch the Soderbergh library of art!

  • As is' spealling!
