DIY laptop cooler made from a stock Pentium 4 fan that I got off a motherboard that fried a couple years ago. The heat sink was used as a hard drive cooler

Temps:
no extra cooler: 45c idle 55-60c load
heat sink on the bottom (yeah not smart): 47c idle 57-65c load (rising)
attached with fan: 37c idle 45-50c load

got everything from stuff laying around.

switch: snap in circuit set
fan: fried motherboard
battery: rc car (9.6v)
wires: laying around my room (stripped from a fried fan)

The computer was a Dell Latitude X300 with a pentium m 1.2GHZ processor (yeah I know it's time to upgrade)

Currently I just turn it on when I need it.

Sorry for the blinking red lights, they were from the camera I used

  • lol cool made out of lego parts but i would suggest undervolt your cpu

  • First off, the laptop already runs extremely slow, and secondly, where can i find instructuins for a latitude x300?

  • if it breaks when you lift the laptop it cant be very practical and what happens if you wanna build sommit else with your lego

  • that is because when the weight is uneven, the back part can break, but it is very sturdy when you have a even weight balance. I've put a lot of pressure when it is on a even weight balance, and it never broke. I did make a newer one that is smaller, and better.

  • great idea kid! 2 thumbs up

  • Lego noob

  • Meh, I like to use an icepack under the pc, works wonders, went from 80 degrees to stable 42.

Only problem is it lasts 4 hours. But that is easily sorted out if you have one other icepack ready in the freezer.

  • well it looks like it could cool but how the heck are you suppose to use the laptop on that thing?
