  • Nice video Will, we had a QSO from my HF bicycle mobile last year.

  • @G4AKC Howdy!!! Yes, I do recall the contact we made. Albeit I'm sure I wasn't QRP at that time :-).... Glad you liked the video. Best regards from ALABAMA!!!

  • Extra-class operators are only allowed on the Geratol Net (3668 MHz) .This net is a "Work All States" nets. 73

  • Listen out on 7029+- and you might just hear my 1 or 2 hundred milliwatts of CW.

  • I will give it a listen. Sure will. 73 from Huntsville AL USA.

  • Back in 89, I was running similar power and making contacts across the pons almost daily. I remember one contact where I reduced power to around 400mw (SSB) and was still just about readable in NJ. That 5 watts is QRO if usinf CW! Good luck and VY 73 de Perry

  • Thanks for your comments. Working QRP is really satisfying. A few days ago, I was over in the mountains near Asheville North Carolina operating portable and made contacts with Belize, Central America, New York, and Texas. I was using the Yaesu 817 and the lowly Workman "hamstick."

  • Just over 8000km with the 817nd and a fishpole vertical, ssb. :)

    qrp is fun :)

  • In the winter I have used less than 1w on 75m SSB to make contacts out to 500-miles. I talk to a guy in Reno, NV (250 air-miles from me) quite a bit on 75m, with both of us only using 1w pep; we do this to keep a low-profile. Signals are almost always over S9. When we run 1kw we are both close to 40dB over S9; do the math: 30dB over would be 100w; 20dB over would be 10w; and 10dB over would be 1w. I work him all the time with 100mw pep on 75m SSB with a dipole at 40ft.

  • why were you looking for an extra class op?

  • POND that is, not pons. Although I made a few contacts over that too :)
