Adam - Man
Seth - Appointed
Enosh -- Mortal
Kenan -- Sorrow
Mahalalel -- The blessed God
Jared -- Shall come down
Enoch -- Teaching
Methuselah -- His death shall bring
Lamech -- Despairing
Noah -- Comfort and rest
Put those meanings into a complete sentence and you get: Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow, (but) the blessed God shall come down teaching. His death shall bring (the) despairing comfort and rest.
I know what you mean. Being a new student of the Bible I can see the interconnection of the old testament sacrifices to Christ's sacrifice, the consistent themes of redemption and human depravity, the fulfilled prophecies especially in Isaiah, and the list goes on. The Bible is simple enough so that we can understand what is required of us to believe and hope for, and complicated enough so that we never fully understand all of it in order that we keep studying.

It's kind of a childish code-finding there, but no worse than all the ones involving "end-times" etc. Guess it goes to show that 'the gift of God' (Human intelligence) can be used for righteousness or destruction.
As far as Bible-'meaning' goes ... it doesn't matter; 'God's reason is above/beyond/on-a-whole-`nother-level-than Man's reason.' The Bible (like the stars in the universe) is merely an echo of God's creation ... an IMPRESSIVE echo, yeah; but nothing big

God is so sweet, isn't he? It always seems odd to me that folks do this with the descendants of Seth but not with the descendants of Cain. Cain's descendants were listed but I have yet to see anyone pit together the names in Cain's descendants in a sentence. I often wonder what that would produce. Do you know what is really good? E W Bullwinger's How to Enjoy the Bible. Totally great book! He also wrote The Witness of the Stars and another great book called Great Cloud of Witness. Great post!

...and this one: Colossians 2:15
And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Cool, huh?!?

Very interesting! I found a secret because I couldn't see the literal meaning of some scripture until I started seeing invisible beings! And then the Lord brought the scriptures to me:Colossians 1:16
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
