I just came back from Orlando Jai Alai and I forgot how great Jai Alai is and how much we took it for granted and should have gone more in Newport but the greed and the slots did the game in: the slots and simulcasting were put there to protect the live product but the politicians and management were greedy and Jai Alai was hidden behind the slots. I don't understand people wanting to piss their money away in machines when they could have this great entertainment for their money. MEABE!!
I was there that day and remember this clearly. As it turned out, this was not the last performance. The actual closing was 2 weeks later on July 13th, after the governors veto was not overriden. I wish the players were allowed to finish the season, and given the proper sendoff, but as Mike later said, they were kicked to the curb like last nights trash.
Mik Warner is my hero and one of the all time great guys you'd ever be lucky enough to meet. After the last point was played and he announced the results he told evryone over the microphone that someone else could turn off the lights cause he sure as hell wasnt going to. It was his job to turn out the lights after each performance. Thanks for not turning out the lights Mike.
somebody fill me in on what happened ?? Why did the state give up? Is the Fronton still standing ?
