DESCRIPTION FROM PATHE ARCHIVE:

Full titles read: "Another unconventional Recording Interview with Jack Hylton and his Boys. (By Courtesy H.M.V.)".

London.

Various shots of Jack Hylton and his band playing in a studio; the song is a rather sorrowful lament about a girl going off with the best friend of her boyfriend, then coming to the original one for sympathy when it all goes wrong. The band is seen in rehearsal (supposedly), but a high camera angle makes the two singers look a bit odd as they cower over the large microphone.

Note: the song is listed in paperwork as being 'Say Yes', but I'm not convinced this is the title of the tune here. Does anyone know? I think it could be 'What Am I To Do?'.

(This story is followed by a brief cut of another band playing (mute) - it is not connected to this story, and doesn't appear to be Jack Hylton's band - could be Geraldo?)

  • Oddly, this was released on record by Hylton as "Say, 'Yes,' (Don't answer me with 'No'," - exactly the same tune and arrangement, but entirely different words and sentiment. (Disc recorded 13.2.31)

  • Excellent, thanks for posting. I love it when Jack shoves the vocalist at 1: 25!

  • Very nice song!

  • Is that Max Abrams on drums....he gave me lessons in the 70s

  • I first heard Jack Hylton's version of "Happy Feet" on a public radio station show dedicated to big bands 35 years ago. After hearing that title I was hooked on Hylton and the other British Dance Bands of that era Ambrose, Lew Stone, Harry Roy, etc.), Thank you for posting.

  • Pat O'Malley became the voice of the lead elephant in the Disney Jungle Book.

The scat singer may be Billy Munn the pianist/arranger.

  • Thanks so much! Can you tell me anything about him?

  • vocalist is Pat O'Malley

  • Who is the lead vocal on this video and also on the Choo Choo video? He's not bad, and is rather amazing given the awkward, stooped position he is forced to take at the mike. He seems a straight vocalist, not just one of the musicians.
