Calipari never was a Pitino assistant, like Billy Donovan and Tubby Smith were. Pitino got to know Calipari at Nike summer basketball camps and was impressed. When UMass asked their alum Pitino for a head coach recommendation, Pitino suggested Calipari.

@collegefootballfan44: UK has had the best recruiting class for the past 3 seasons, including this one. So that includes 2010, I don't know where you get your news from, but you're wrong.

i would love to meet michael wilbon so i could punch him in the face, he once quoted " i hope kentucky basketball never wins another basketball game" he then said because uk fired tubby, and then he goes on to say tubby lead us to a couple of final fours, which was very incorrect. i think he is a terrible, terrible journalist
