  • It can be very tricky with Foote's Narravite as there's masses of detail. However I google every battle and campaign and have the maps up on screen while listening. Definitely much easier to follow, but Foote's prose is very clear and following the maps is useful, but not necessary. Also when he's describing people (which he frequently does) its nice to be able to google their photo see why he's descibed someone as having "a spade shaped beard" for instance!

  • @clibinarium Awesome. I read on another website that listenign to audio books "wit ha lot of names and information" (aka this book as you know) is not a good idea. What is your feeling on this? Thanks a lot.

  • @skittlesareyum48 Its really good. But it depends on whether you like the voice of the narrator, sometimes they are great, sometimes annoying, sometimes bland. The perfect version would be Foote himself reading it, but I don't know if such a recording was made. I have the version from "Audible" they have samples on their site. I'm as far as Gettysburg now, it is very long but I listen to it while working; the time flies by.

I listened to 1776 read by McCullough himself, that was great.

  • @clibinarium Listening as in audi book? How is it? I want to try that, just because the books are so big, but Idk if the experience would be ruined or something. What do you think of it?

I'm currently listening to Foote's Narrative, and thought that something of similar breadth and detail on the AWI would be great; and you're right McCullough would be just the man to do it.

  • I wish he would make a narrative of the Revolutionary War, to the likes of Shelby Foote's "The Civil War: A Narrative"
