A playthrough of "Dead Zone" (Map15) of Final Doom: TNT Evilution for PC, played through GLBoom-plus. 97% kills (maximum without an Arch-Vile) and 100% secrets (Max-Kill). This map has a bug that seems to keep all monster kills from being properly reached.

Now... here's a brilliant, balanced map, despite a bug that can keep 2 monsters from being reached (which means if the Arch-Vile doesn't resurrect anything, you finish with only 97% kills). At least, it seems there's a bug. Compet-N records have some of them finishing with 2 monsters alive on Max-Kills, and I'm pretty sure I didn't kill those last two because of it.

We get to see a rare bug here though with an anomaly known as the "Ghost Monster" ... it is created when a monster's body is crushed under a door or crushing ceiling and the body leaves a bloody spot. If an Arch-Vile resurrects that monster, it loses most of it's clipping and can now pass through walls and fall off of ledges (but can't climb them!), and also becomes immune to all damage except monster infighting and splash damage. Fun times ensue.

ANYWAY! Enough about talking about map and engine bugs. This map has amazing playability, great concept, fantastic execution, wonderful monster placement, and secrets that you actually have to search for, on top of having the secret exit in a place you can't see it but it's easy to find. Well, somewhat. A few well-placed traps and the first BFG of TNT (and we're halfway through!?) being cleverly tricky to get if you don't know how, and you have yourself something nothing short of amazing. The amount of thought that went into this map is easy to spot in the design, and it has a sense of location. You feel this openness but there are points it feels like it's constricted just enough to give you that sense of a tech-base. I can go on and on about how amazing this is, but I'll just let the video sum it all up.

  • @AltimaMantoid me too.

and what's your favorite moment of doom games?

  • @WingAscendant I think the important thing here is that it's done by TNT, so no one knows anything other than it doesn't make sense.

  • @TARINunit9 Uhh... Phobos?

  • @AltimaMantoid

My bad, it was Jupiter's moon. Io to be exact

Except Map32; you get one guess where "Caribbean" takes place
