Catholic healthcare company Bon Secours St. Francis Health System's new Millennium hospital in Greenville, South Carolina, will be as an environmentally responsible medical center that emphasizes so-called holistic healing and will bring 500 new jobs to the Palmetto State. "I see it as a hospital of the future," St. Francis CEO Valinda Rutledge told The Greenville News. The $151 million St. Francis Millennium will feature an entrance lake, a variety of healing gardens and an interior rain wall, all designed to soothe the spirit as well as the body. The 20-acre facility will house 52 beds, 10 operating rooms, an emergency department with 15 treatment spaces and 16 observation beds, and diagnostic, radiology, laboratory and pharmacy services. Construction is expected to begin in January 2010 and will finish in late 2011 or early 2012. The project must be approved by the state Department of Health and Environmental Control, and hospital officials filed an application for a certificate of need this week. The approval process typically takes six to eight months. The green facility will offer parking for electric vehicles with outlets for recharging. Millennium expects to see 2,300 patients the first year and 2,800 by 2013.
