My dad was in the Navy, we were stationed there twice, 82-83 and 87-89. Great place to be a kid! Everyone knew each other and looked out for each and we had free reign of the island! I would probably hate to be there as a teenager and older but I only have good memories!

I got a chance to know this island when I served in the USCG. Our 378 feet boat come to this island for routine refuel when we patrol between Seattle to Korea. When we pulled in for refuel, I hoped on the island bus (gray color as I remembered) to go to the Navy Exchange, and McDonald

I was stationed there in 75...lol..about the eagle's..they hung at the dump then too along with the rats..we would go and shoot rats for fun..Adak would be a good place to be living if the shit hits the fan in the coming years.

@wendon65 Dont forget that the $2.50 Big Mac at McDonalds was in 1997 as Adak still had the base there. Now that there is basically nobody living in Adak anymore it causes the prices to go up and since there isnt a store or resturant for a few hundred miles thats why the prices are so high. Its called supply and demand.

Thanks for the video. Is the National Forest gone? It had 23 trees and was an actual register forest.. Are there any fox left? They were elusive but there were plenty there when I left in the 80's. While most of the inland streams were pure fresh (and darn tasty) water, there was one stream that was poison. Animals would stay away from it even. Is that still there or did they figure it out?

I was stationed there in the 80's. ( SEABEES ) $14.50 for a hamburger, Mc D's was only getting $2.50 for a Big mac.

I spent a year on Adak from 1973-74 while in the Navy Seabees. It's nice to see the island again in digital quality. Thank you, and a great job putting together the documentary.
