Professor Harry Smith is a Vice-President of the EES and has enjoyed a long and distinguished career as Edwards Professor of Egyptology, UCL and field director of a series of EES projects (more info: http://tinyurl.com/yepa9u7 ).
Professor Smith was interviewed by Chris Naunton for the Society's Oral History Project (http://tinyurl.com/ljbrxd ) in March 2009. Here he talks about the objects discovered by the Society at Saqqara (http://tinyurl.com/yckloku ) and the process of 'division', by which the Society was given permission by the Egyptian Antiquities Service to take a portion of the objects back to the UK for distribution to Museums and other institutions.
The Society is extremely grateful to Professor Smith for sharing his reminiscences, to Dr Alice Stevenson for transcribing the interview, and to the members of the Amelia Edwards Group for providing the funds to allow the Oral History Project to go ahead. All the images used in this video come from the Egypt Exploration Society's Lucy Gura Archive.
