Bach Bach Bach Bach Bach

Just following in the footsteps of my JPC buddy davebeeboss.

I'm using the Czerny edition b/c I find it the least convoluted of the published editions I've found. I just need a guide to fingering, not the GPS roadmap ya know?

I won't get in to my ideas on articulating Bach yet. I'm still torn between the schools of Gould vs. other modern masters. I actually really enjoy the way Jarrett articulates Bach. I think I mostly would like to model after him while adding a hint of detachedness that Gould brings to the table.

This video obviously isn't the best example to discuss articulation on since it was written out in connected legato phrases. However, the fugue I'll be posting next will be. I'd love to hear the viewers thoughts on "how to" achieve the best articulation in "non-legato" pieces of the W.T.C.

  • slow down! ths piece is ment to be played slower.

  • Obviously the black and white video may make the music appear faster than it really is.

  • @tjjazzpiano Color of the video has nothing to do with how fast it SOUNDS.

  • meant to be played slower? Bach didn't write the tempo, so we are free (yep, scary) to choose.

  • this makes me want to pee

  • I like the tempo on this.

  • perfect tempo. slow playing is for a slow wit

  • slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooower

  • Great! I like this tempo. I also like the slower tempo.

Actually, when I was young and had a record-player I sometimes switched the LP-speed of some Bach pieces from 33 to 45.

I have read somewhere that there was complaints to Bach that he played "too fast". We will never know how fast he played.

  • @TheElephantlover30 I like it slower, as well. But actually, it originally was a finger exercise!

  • 1:06 This is not an error. As said earlier, this measure is often omitted but it is played correctly as B-C-Eb. It is the next measure that is played B-C-D.

Anyone know why it is taken out?
