It's no secret that obesity rates in Canada are soaring. With more than half of the adult population overweight or obese, the increase in the average Canadian's weight is clearly hitting epidemic proportions. And, as it turns out, the kids aren't alright either. Recent statistics from the Childhood Obesity Foundation reveals that childhood obesity rates have nearly tripled in the last 25 years, meaning that 26% of our children are currently at an unhealthy weight—not to mention at risk of a future full of health and wellness complications.

The following video, which captures the panel presentation, "Bringing Yoga into Schools," presented at Yoga Festival Toronto 2010, demonstrates how integrating yoga into a school board's curriculum can help mitigate the problems of childhood obesity by providing children with a fun and engaging way to learn how to make healthy life decisions. Facilitated by Heidi Bornstein, the creator of the Yoga Yoda program for children's yoga education, the panel included talks by Janet Williams, author of children's yoga book "What I see, I can be"; Aruna Kathy Humphrys, children's yoga instructor and author of the Young Yoga Masters blog; Julie Sorichetti, a yoga education instructor at Yoga Ed.; and Sherry Lablanc, Director of Yoga 4 Kids.
