I like how she sung a guys song, but I just hate how when a guy sings a girl song they get a bunch of crap for it.

Girl you miles on some of the boys trying to sing this song on youtube!
I love hearing a woman sing it. I'm sure William Finn meant for this to be a song about a universal truth.

Its too bad this wasnt in the original Elegies. I love this song.

huccster - i don't think having a woman sing this song has anything at all to do with being open-minded or not; true, this is meant to be sung by a man, but having it performed by a woman shouldn't rob the song of power or meaning. it's a song about love, and that should (and does, if you ask me) hold up, regardless of the gender of who's singing.

Pleasant.
A couple of things. I saw Michael Rupert sing this song 12 times back in the mid 1980s when they took "March of the Falsettos" on tour and it worked perfectly in that show. But I have no problem at all with it sung by a woman. As for "Elegies," I saw that collection of William Finn songs as it closed the Beverly Canon Theatre in Beverly Hills, which was being torn down. I think this singer should try a few of the ballads from Finn's "Falsettoland" and later "Falsettos."

I never thought about a girl singing this song... it's actually just as beautiful and I believe few people would be able to pull that off.

The ELEGIES at Umich was a collection of various William Finn songs that all dealt with death, not just the one's on the CD.
