- 1940 Russian Captured 8mm Mauser
- Stock trigger, no modifications
- Few matching serial numbers. Russians rebuilt rifle with different parts
- Receiver and barrel shift in wood stock
- Frosted battle barrel. After intensive cleaning I am starting to see lands and grooves
- Rear sight pops up and moves up 200m after every shot. I have to tape down to stock to keep in place
- RC Mauser 8mm battle barrel is slightly larger than my Yugo 8mm Mauser barrel. Probably due to being shot out in war time.
- Shooting 1950s Yugoslavian surplus ammo (not handloads)
- None of the items above says, 'accuracy'. I am able to hit 5 of 5 at 300 yards (when I move rear sights to 200 yards) in video and hit 3 of 5 on small steel plate (not on video).
- Most difficult part of iron sight shooting is that iron sights are black and background I am shooting against is very dark. I have to start off lining up sights in green grass under target or against white posterboard target and move sights over to target while keeping both front and rear iron sights even. Then small white target is covered by front sight and I have to memorize or 'feel' the target.
- I shoot several different iron sight rifles and each has a different 'place' to hit the small target which further complicates the sighting.
- I dont have a human spotter to tell me where I missed. Cant tell where I missed until I plug digital camera into computer at home.
- Takes me about 5 minutes to shoot 5 shots and I edit down to a couple of seconds for each shot .
- I use a sling and strap around my forearm to steady aim.

  • Um? Why is there an exercise ball on the firing range?? Also nice shot.

  • @trunsako95zelda It does look like an exercise ball. It is actually some kind of liquid underground storage tank with holes in it.

  • very nice for open sights.

    Well done

  • Thank you.

These videos are my external validation that I have learned something in the 4 years since i started shooting.

  • I wonder if the sights being set for meters would effect your way of going by yards?

  • @jmk0309 I found out that many/most rearsenaled Russian captured Mausers have this same problem since the rear sight was removed and added back. Have to move to 200 for 300 yards. Have seen on many different forums.

  • i just got paid for a side job with a Romanian 8mm Mauser, but no ammo that comes next week

  • Got my russian capture kar98k here with me now. I brought it out to the range once a year or so ago, hard to find reasonably priced 8mm mauser in Canada I find, but at 50 yards it grouped beautifully a few inches above bulls eye so for a rifle that's only matching in reciever and stock, I couldn't ask for better. When I track down some cheap ammo or get into reloading, I expect good results from these well made rifles, despite what they were used for decades ago. Mine is dated 42. I love history

  • @300YardNoScope Probably an accumulator tank from a well sump that deflated and consequently retired

  • dude you realize that mauser sights are in meters not yards. you were shooting high because your sights were sighted for 325 yards at 300 meters.

  • Good job, the R/C's are just as good as a prestine matched example, they make good shooters.

  • Very nice video and good shooting. I have an R/C Mauser also, (S42/G code) and it is pretty accurate using Portugese surplus ammo.
