video review of the Meinl string cajon with the makkah-burl frontplate. Audio clips with and without mics. Used an Audix D6 in the back hole, and a Shure SM-57 on the front plate. Feel free to send a message or email me with any questions or suggestions for more reviews. Thanks for watching.

  • how tight should the strings be on the cajon

  • they are pretty tight. if you were to strum them from the inside like a guitar they are pretty tight feeling. the tighter they are the more "snap" sound you get it seems. Mine has a problem though that one of the strings is not tightening. I had no choice but to take a piece of scotch tape and tape it to the drum. That eliminated the buzzing, but sacrificed a bit of the sound.

  • how much do mics like that usually cost

  • SM-57 is $99,

    Audix D6 is $199.

    those are regular retail prices.

  • heyy i have a question i just got a meinl string cajon also...yours sounds better then mine though lol i dont know if i should tune it higher or lower...whats best? get back to me please :)

  • hey. what kind of cajon did you buy? I've found that the cheaper meinl headliner series are stuck sounding bad no matter what you do.

what you hear in this video was basically how it sounded right out of the box. since then i've tuned it a bit more to my liking. Made the strings tighter using the allen screw on the holes on the underside of the cajon. i kept the top screws on the faceplate relatively tight, just a little looser then the tightest they go. let me know how this works for you.

  • yo my cajon buzzes a lot idk why

  • @vinaGfolife tighten it using the tightener inside the cajon, you tighten the tighten the two scrrewws on the bottom of the cajon. I had the same problem, now resolved!

  • i really dont understand how every cajon drum i hear on youtube sounds nothing like mine. i just got a meinl cajon natural as a gift and im so dissapointed cuz it keeps buzzing and rattling not matter how i tune it! any ideas about what i should do?

  • dont buy a string cajon. get one with snares. they sound way better and barely resonate.

  • is there any any any way i can get the bass to sound nice and clean? i have that buzzy sound and i'd really enjoy it without that sound. i thought i could loosen the screws but it's not really helping. i still get that buzz sound on the bass. my dad went out of his way to get this and i don't wanna be an asshole and say "we gotta sell it on ebay cause i can't get it the way i want it"

  • D6 for the win.

  • What is a good Cajon thats not to expensive but still good.

also do you have to tune the strings any?

  • i got this cajon today. and i wasn't sure how the contrast would be but i am extremely pleased with the bass tone. the corners and top can get very good snare sounds also
