Free MP3/OGG/SoundFont download: http://www.arachnosoft.com

This music, "Deimos Anomaly", is the episode 2, level 1 soundtrack from DOOM, a game developed and released by id Software on the MS-DOS PC platform in 1993.
It's the absolute original MIDI file from the game, as composed by Robert C. Prince.

The purpose of this video is to demonstrate that MIDI files can actually sound very good when played with a nice synthesizer.
Here, I used the free SynthFont SoundFont-compatible software synthesizer (http://www.synthfont.com) to reproduce a MIDI file using Arachno SoundFont, a custom General MIDI SoundFont bank I designed for my Sound Blaster Live! soundcard.
My bank features many famous sounds from the best synthesizers by Roland (D-50, Sound Canvas...), Korg (M1, X5...), Yamaha (MU, Clavinova...), Fairlight (CMI), E-MU (Emulator), Ensoniq...

The audio track has been recorded straight from SynthFont using my Arachno SoundFont bank and the MIDI file, dry, without any added effects.
Arachno SoundFont, as well as MP3 and OGG versions of this recording can be downloaded for free on my website, at http://www.arachnosoft.com

Used to think that MIDI music was ugly? Think again!
Any questions, comments or remarks will be appreciated!

===============================================================================

    - DOOM music sounds awesome on a real Sound Canvas, best being SC-88 (guitars), but MS Synth IS horrible. Overall sound quality has nothing to do with the SC-55, the real thing.

    - High resolution graphics are from the Doomsday Engine using a third-party high resolution texture pack.

  • @arachnosoft I would imagine Doom music would sound nice on an SC-88 or SC-55.

Unfortunatly the only way I could easily put it through my SC-88Pro is if I recorded it and rendered it as WAV or mp3. It would even sound cool through a JV 1080. I would love to be able to use the SC-88pro to stream gameplay music. I know you can get USB midi interfaces.

  • epic Midi is epic ...

  • nothing beats the original hands down, just awesome.

  • Really a good job ! Is it possible to get in contact with you ? Your soundfont did an amazing job. Perhaps you have a look at my old dos videos. ;-)

  • No music from Doom sounds better in general midi format either using microsoft midi synth or Roland VSC and also sounds good on a non sample based midi device like Creative Music synth ( not that I have a non sample based midi device ),and what's with the high definition graphics?
