The Earthworks 1021, 1022, and 1024 Zero Distortion Preamps are completely free of noise and distortion, and are really a lot like "wire and gain." Such transparency, accuracy and detail in a mic preamp are extremely useful when the sound of the instrument coupled with an amazing microphone should not be compromised. The Earthworks preamp will not add its own coloration and artifacts like just about every other preamp on the market. It is designed to delver the sound coming out of the microphone exactly that way, as if there is no preamp in the signal path whatsoever. In this video we demonstrate this performance through a variety of microphones and sources including recording acoustic guitar, piano, jazz archtop guitar, and electric guitars. Give us a call to discuss this amazing distortion-free preamp, toll free 888.528.9703.

  • yo, would this mic pre work well for orchestral recordings combined with earthwork mics?

  • @maxauto44e Absolutely. And, it will work great with other mics as well... basically if you are getting a great sound out of your mics, the Earthworks will delver that great sound in an unadulterated way. They are carrying forward the their mic reputation (accuracy and detail ) with this incredible pre. But honestly, the preamp is tough to argue with, as it is truly accurate and transparent. We've had great success with lots of classical projects- call us anytime to discuss: +1 919.682.5552

Indeed; not another preamp on the market today matches it's <1ppm THD+N spec, so it is in fact the best tool for the job if total transparency is the desired result.

What did you use for recording Jason? The noise floor is noticeably higher whenever the audio cuts to him.

  • @FreaqyFrequency On Jason's narrative we used our trusty/cheap cameras, and a lavalier mic- not exactly audiophile stuff!

  • @FreaqyFrequency Interesting idea... we might do something on the more "affordable" Lavry AD10 or AD11, two excellent modern converters, but it's definitely a possibility. Thanks for the suggestion- in the meantime, if we don't get to a video of any of those, we are glad to discuss our experiences with them. We obviously use the gear here, we don't just sling it!

  • On a slightly tangential note, any chance of a Lavry AD122-96MKIII one day? The spec on that is similarly impressive, in terms of AD conversion. >5pp10m THD+N going on there!

  • @soundpurestudios

*its <1ppm THD+N. Usually I'm more careful about the possessive its versus the contraction, but ah well. :p

At any rate, thank you very much for the video. It absolutely astounds me that this piece has been out for 11 years, and not another preamp on the market matches it to date.

  • @hueseph The Acoustic guitar at the beginning was the new SR40 Cardioid Earthworks mics (And we are really loving them). The Earthworks at the end of the video were the QTC40 mics, and they are definitely tried and true. Thanks for the comment. Yes, the Telefunken AR51's are impressive, for an LDC, to be able to pull off that much detail and openness, but still have the smoothness and warmth of and LDC. We were impressed with those too...

  • @hueseph Will pass it along to the player, thanks!

  • @RAYGproductions Thanks Ray!
