The Monkees: Last Train To Clarksville, 1967
****************************************
REST IN PEACE DAVY JONES,
YOU MADE OUR LIVES A LOT BRIGHTER AND HAPPIER.
YOU WERE A BRIGHT LIGHT IN THIS LIFE.
SEE YOU IN HEAVEN MY FRIEND.
~~~ FROM EVERYONE
2/29/2012
****************************************
Lyrics:
Take the last train to Clarksville,
And I'll meet you at the station.
You can be be there by four thirty,
'Cause I made your reservation.
Don't be slow, oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
'Cause I'm leavin' in the morning
And I must see you again
We'll have one more night together
'Til the morning brings my train.
And I must go, oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
And I don't know if I'm ever coming home.
Take the last train to Clarksville.
I'll be waiting at the station.
We'll have time for coffee flavored kisses
And a bit of conversation.
Oh... Oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
Take the last train to Clarksville,
Now I must hang up the phone.
I can't hear you in this noisy
Railroad station all alone.
I'm feelin' low. Oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
And I don't know if I'm ever coming home.
Take the last train to Clarksville,
Take the last train to Clarksville,
Probably no other successful group in history was "thrown" together like these kids were. All four were chosen from thousands, through private auditions and interviews, and it is really quite amazing that the chemistry between them worked so flawlessly.
I was real young, about 5 or 6, when they first hit the scene. But I knew they were something really special. They will always live in my heart and remind of a much more innocent and caring period in time...
So what if they were a manufactured band? That makes them better. And they did help me while going through a terrible childhood. I still have a few of the vinyls I used to have. I believe my dog got the rest. God, I feel so old.
I remember back in the day around 1981 during my heavy rock period we used to play this song in a heavy metal hard rock style. The crowd went nuts. I would usually have around 5 to 10 air guitar players in front of me on the floor right up against my face jammin with me. Those were the days. Don't care what anyone says loved the Monkees.
I liked their voices, theiur instrumentals and their melodies. They were a group which songs made me HAPPY ! I don't care who rates them or how they are rated. Their music made me HAPPY...not like the moronic soulless RAP crap everyone now listens to. !
Though they went through an audition, and the music was written for them, they truly were a great band. RIP Davey and long live the Monkees.
Great tribute to Davey....respect man he was great. I think the Monkeys were very special and it was unbelievable really considering the way they got together but that's genius and they did the rest. Great listening.
