The Monkees: Last Train To Clarksville, 1967
**********************************************************************
REST IN PEACE DAVY JONES,
YOU MADE OUR LIVES A LOT BRIGHTER AND HAPPIER.
YOU WERE A BRIGHT LIGHT IN THIS LIFE.
SEE YOU IN HEAVEN MY FRIEND.
~~~ FROM EVERYONE
2/29/2012
**********************************************************************
Lyrics:
Take the last train to Clarksville,
And I'll meet you at the station.
You can be be there by four thirty,
'Cause I made your reservation.
Don't be slow, oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
'Cause I'm leavin' in the morning
And I must see you again
We'll have one more night together
'Til the morning brings my train.
And I must go, oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
And I don't know if I'm ever coming home.
Take the last train to Clarksville.
I'll be waiting at the station.
We'll have time for coffee flavored kisses
And a bit of conversation.
Oh... Oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
Take the last train to Clarksville,
Now I must hang up the phone.
I can't hear you in this noisy
Railroad station all alone.
I'm feelin' low. Oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
And I don't know if I'm ever coming home.
Take the last train to Clarksville,
Take the last train to Clarksville,
    Probably no other successful group in history was "thrown" together like these kids were. All four were chosen from thousands, through private auditions and interviews, and it is really quite amazing that the chemistry between them worked so flawlessly.
    I was real young, about 5 or 6, when they first hit the scene. But I knew they were something really special. They will always live in my heart and remind of a much more innocent and caring period in time...
    So what if they were a manufactured band? That makes them better. And they did help me while going through a terrible childhood. I still have a few of the vinyls I used to have. I believe my dog got the rest. God, I feel so old.
    Tho Davy was 1 of a kind I think Peter "Herman" Noone could fill in for him on Monkees reunion tours. He could do both Davy's songs & his own Herman's Hermits songs.
    Hi, sorry, just read about this. Initially, the Monkees didn't write or play on their own songs, but as they got popular the group struggled for control of their own music and later albums featured instrumentals and songs from members of the group. Nesmith and Tork wrote a bunch. It's on wikipedia, if you're interested.
    Sorry, hon, you've been misinformed. Initially, yes, the Monkees didn't compose or play instruments for their albums. However, as the group became popular, they managed to gain control of their own music--by the second season of the tv show, songs written by Tork and Nesmith were common, and their albums weren't entirely studio musicians. Also, if you're claiming that neither the Beatles nor the Monkees wrote about love, please look up the lyrics.
    If you look it up (I did), Mike Nesmith did actually play a role in starting MTV--I believe the concept of the channel was his idea, though others developed it. At the time, music videos were mainly just videos of the band singing (the majority of Monkees music videos certainly are). Nesmith is credited as being one of the people to develop music videos into their current story-telling format, I believe. (Also, you can re-watch all the episodes on Youtube, if you'd like!)
