    The point of this commercial (on TV in 1970-'71 or so) was that 1949 was the first year VWs were imported to the US - only 2 of them. All the other makes in this fictional car show were defunct by the time this commercial was made. (Buick, the car with the holes in the side, wasn't identified here because it was still going strong.)

    I was surprised, a few years after this, to see a clip of the Andrews Sisters in 1949. In real life they didn't look anything like these wonderful impersonators.
