  • What is hard use knife, is relative.. I'd always choose scandi instead of chopper first.. then chopper. :D

    Thanks for the review.

  • Yea, Antti, I know what you mean. :D

Though, it's for that one knife situation. Though, realistically that one knife situation would be an EDC, not some big ol' honkin' chopper.

  • what do you guys use to start the fires?

  • Mainly flint, a little fatwood shavings, and sometimes a piece of birchbark.

  • 5:23 *that* is what convex people don't understand. yes convex is stronger and better for non wood tasks, but wood chisels and wood planes are flat for a reason

  • good review! i own the helle eggen that is very similar to the odel and it´s tough enough for smaller batoning tasks like kindling. all in all helle knives are a very good qualitiy for a decent price!

  • ive done allot of batoning with a mora laminated with a wood handle and pole tang. Its cheaper and it has never let me down. So considering theres a 40+ dollar difference between the two the helle should out perform the mora in batoning. It will bend though. The mora has shown that

  • True true. What I really ment to say was that I'd rather choose a knife of about that size, wether scandi or not (sounded really snobby there previously hehe). But heck, I wouldn't mind chopper if it was only thing I had... but I'd choose both!

And yea, your most likely survival knife is always the one you carry.

  • I also would love to see an explanation on various types of bevels, like convex vs scandi, flat vs hollow etc.

    Good vids, keep posting.

  • I can get a vid of the bevel is you like or explain it all to you in a message.

As for fire hardening, it's simply just speeding up the process of drying wood. The tip is placed just beneath the hot coals and the heat draws the remaining moisture out.
