I only saw TOP two or three times, spending all the money I had to see them whenever they happened to appear in California wherever I happened to be, including the East Bay Area, of course!

I just saw TOP last night, and they're still tighter than a clenched fist, i can say that much. Even though i think only 3 of the original members are left, they're just as good as back in the day. They blew me away.

Tower of Power I saw them live when they performed at Brown University. Providence R.I. around 1977 still blows me away thinking of that concert. Yes in the last 20 years music has deteriorated to an all time low. a few good songs hear and their but no real top notch musicians like there used to be. All pre fabricated glitz and glamour. Give me the 1960's, 1970's and even the early 1980's anyday.

Back in the day of TOP and the other great horn bands, they were all top notch musicians. They had to be. There was no digital enhancements or autotune to fix pitch problems like todays hacks have. These guys got it honest. What you see and hear is what you get......some of the most bad ass funk and soul ever put on vinyl.
