Time for a new stick that will keep breaking your other option is chop the end off and weld on a new one. The steel has gotten brittle and will keep cracking.

You got away fairly cheap for the guy to gouge it out and weld up that.

The end of the crack needed to be drilled first with a hole. Next would be the filler or groove rod pass with some 5/16" electrode of the welder could handle it. Then followed up with a cap using 10018 rod for strength and to prevent recurring cracking. I would have done the job for $400.

@TruckerATK I took a night class at our local county school. They have vocational ed stuff for adults and it's not too expensive. Had a teacher who had welded for the railroad for years and knew his stuff. He gave me some real hands-on help and if we wanted to at the end of the course we took the test and got certified with a three-pass vertical up weld. You should check out your local school system and see if they offer a class. Good luck!

Thats a serious crack there! At least you noticed it in time ya know. Could have been a disaster if you were loading up a truck. One thing I have always wanted to learn, is how to weld.

I really laugh when Albertan contractors come to work in B.C. and they litterally distroy their equipment. They come here and thing we can dig that no problem, go right ahead LOL.

I've seen that happen a few times. A good welder can usually save the stick.

Not as bad as it looks.
