Shiloh: Kiera, you may as well tell them now.
Kiera: *looking upset and embarrassed* I...I...*looks at the boys, then at Dorothy, and then at Shiloh, who took Kiera's hand and gave her a look that said 'Everything will be ok.'*
Kiera: I...had an accident...a few years back...I used to be a gymnast...I was really good, too. I medalled in the state finals back in PA...
Dorothy: Actually, she got gold...twice...
Shiloh: Dorothy, I don't think you're helping right now.
Dorothy: Oh, sorry...
Nick: Wait, you were a gymnast?
Joe: Like Shawn Johnson?
Kevin: No, dude! Like Nastia Liukin! She's awesome.
Shiloh: WAY better than Shawn Johnson!
Dorothy: Hey! I like Shawn!!!
Nick: Yeah! Shawn rocks!!! HA! THREE AGAINST TWO!!!
Kiera: SHUT UP! They're both amazing! I like them both the same, but their not part of my story. Yes, like Nastia and Shawn, I, too, was a gymnast. My specialty was the vault. I was also pretty good on the uneven bars. I wasn't too bad at the floor routines, but when it came to the balance beam...*grips Shiloh's hand tighter*
Shiloh: *quietly* It's ok, Kiera. They'll understand. You went through lots of therapy for this.
Kiera: *takes a deep breath and continues* When it came to the balance beam, I was always a klutz. I hated balance beam. It was my weakest event. Anyway, I was at my third state championship. I remember it so clearly...
-Flashback-
Mrs. Springer: Kiera, don't forget your hair clips!!!
Kiera: I got it, mom!!!
Kiera: Alright. This is it. Going for my third gold medal! I can do this! I can do this! *looks at the balance beam* I can't do this...
Shiloh: Kiera, you're going to be fine. You got gold hear twice before, and you can do it again.
Kiera: I guess you're right...
Announcer: Next up, Kiera Springer!
Kiera walked out onto the floor. She started with her floor routine. She performed to an upbeat melody with no words. She nailed it, scoring perfectly.
Next came the uneven bars. Kiera ran up, jumped on the spring, and grabbed hold of the bars. Her routine began. As she spun herself round and round, her thoughts began to drift until she realized she needed to let go of the high bar and jump to the low bar. Carefully, she spun herself around, and just in the knick of time let go and grabbed the low bar. She spun around once on that one before swinging herself back up to the high bar. Kiera was praying that she would stick her dismount, and then...she stuck it. The gymnasium was in an uproar for Kiera. She was doing great. Onto her enxt event, she thought.
After uneven bars came the vault for Kiera. She patted her hands with powder and then stood quietly for a moment. Her thoughts raced in her mind about how she would run up, do the flip, and do a double turn with a twist. The sound went off, and so did Kiera. She ran with so much energy and force and when she catapaulted herself into the air, she made it seem like her vault was effortless. She stuck her landing once again before moving on to her final event...the balance beam.
