2 out of 3 children with Autism are boys.my son is one of them.We noticed he was really late with all his milestones and didn't respond to his names or play wit other kids."Noah like to line up his toy cars according to size and mega blocks to color code.He use to arrange his wooden alphebet blocks according to color too but now at age 4 he can read an spell at a 8-9year old level. so now he arranges them to spell words or create sentences.he hates it and has a meltdown when his sister disrupts the order of these alphabet blocks. This is called hyperlexia and is common with individuals with autism.
Noah is in the 30 percentile that is super affectionate .He is undersensitive to touch an motion so he seeks it out through squeezing in tight spaces, hugs, running, spinning around and around looking out of the corners of his eyes, jumping, climbing constantly has to move to fill the need.Medication an therapy has helped noah to focus without the zombie effect we feared before the doctor advised it.after researching the drug and using a low dose daily we saw tremdous results with a couple weeks.diet has also helped to make his behaviour more typical and focused. There is no cure according to the Autism Society but we are praying for one. That being said we have went through the long process of test an there was no evidence to show that it was caused by vaccinations since looking back to my pregnancy there were physical characteristics like head circumfrance that is common with autistic boys, mri showed nothing epileptic or outstanding, genetic testing didn't show anything inherited or chromosonal etc.
We have another child that is 2 years younger than Noah and she is a typical busy child who's development has been on time if not advanced.
They are day and night but we love and treat them the same.He is so gentle with her.and her boldness getting in his space has helped force his social skills to progress.I did everything the same previous, during my pregnancies with these two and so I know medications or diet didn't cause it.We've decided to stop focusing on the past and work toward an happier, independant and productive future for noah.
Noah has had alot of hurdles and more to go but he has also progressed so well too.He is intellegent, lovable, funny and just happens to be autistic.God made him this way for a great purpose and I don't think we'd change a bit.Autism doesn't have to be a horrible diagnosis or the end of dreams. but a different way of doing thigs through their eyes.God loves all his children there is nothing to fear here because God has a plan.
I chose the song"Hold onto the Anchor" from Sheldon Boyde's cd Through Storms that was produced long before Noah's birth but a song I have always found God's peace in an think it is fitting for this subject or any other storm in life.
Through God and public acceptance we can get through this storm as one community!
