  • Also before that, Charlie McGettigan from Donegal had the tune to `Let Mr Maguire sit down`.

  • Sorry dmcraanen I don`t have the music.

  • Sorry dmcraanen, I do not know of any words to this Irish Hornpipe, lots of Irish dance music have no lyrics, we just dance and hum or lilt the tune.

  • Thanks Johnny, it seem to work as a reel, although I was drunk at the time.

  • No problem, slim.

  • Sorry Uistmann59, I don`t have that tune.

  • Dont forget La Legion Irlandaise, the only foreign legion in the Grande Armee to recieve a gold Eagle!!!!

  • @GhostWritersDragon It is a great recording -- O'Suillebhean is the director of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick.

  • @SantaFe19484 A lot of fairly common dance tunes came out of the Napoleonic wars. A big part of Wellington's army was Irish. Also, these tunes would have come to Ireland with European dancing masters, where we get the names of dances and rhythms like Reel (Quadrlle) and Jig (Gigue).

  • What does Napoleon Bonaparte crossing the Rhine have to do with Ireland?

  • @lorgain2 The chorus to Mr. McGuire (B part of the tune)

Johnny, get up from the fire, get up and give the man a seat

Can't you see it's Mr. Mcguire and he's courtin' your sister Kate

Ah, you know very well he own's the farm a wee bit out of the town

Arrah, get up out of that, you impudent brat, and let Mr. McGuire sit down.

  • @lorgain2 You can find it in O'Neill's Music of Ireland, although I don't have the number off the top of my head.

  • @lorgain2 It is indeed the tune used for Mr. McGuire, as recorded by the Clancys.

  • @lorgain2 The song is usually called 'Mick McGuire' -- I have it by the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. it was one of their first recordings, back in the late 50's.

  • Thank God you loaded this on YOUTUBE. I'd be gone insane if I couldn't hear it again... :) Thankyou. God bless your soul!
