@QUIX4U Dude WTF are you talking about. This is an example of what amplifier clipping sounds like. No it is not the magnet vibrating nor is it bottoming out.

@IceburgSlim8788 That's what I don't get, people actually think this rattle is cool, while killing their systems, amps, & speakers. It's so easy to hear the distortion, that it drives me nuts when people think that's how it's supposed to sound! I love deep low bass the glitchier & grimier dubstep the better, but CLEAR sound without rattle is how it should be. You are RIGHT on, your example is perfect--the people who aren't getting it are those who need an excuse for listening this way.

Lol @QUIX4U, the most annoying asshole I've ever seen on the interwebz. -.-
The bastard comes back to the video just to complain also, ROFLMAO at his post dates - "1 year ago, 10 months ago, 3 months ago". Life well wasted Mr. CAPS.

What exactly causes clipping? And is it always this obvious? I'm a car audio noob and I'd rather not damage my system.

@QUIX4U just because u are using a bunch of big terms doesn't mean you are correct, "clipping" means your amp or your HU is sending signals out that are too strong and the ends of the frequency waves are being "clipped" off, you cant hear clipping u have to use an o scope or DD-1 to tune that out... And u saying distortion doesn't hurt the driver is COMPLETELY false, distortion means that the subwoofer is not moving in a perfect linear motion, it may not be instant but in time will hurt the sub

What's with all the "know all" people in the comments? Your hearing must be fucked up for judging a video and not understanding a single thing about speakers. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!

dumb ass
@MBP6705 Also, don't use bass boost. It's pointless and will only cause you to damage you subs quicker.

@MBP6705 it's when the audio wave clips off the top of the signal causing the subwoofer to be momentarily stationary. It is not always this noticeable. If listening to your sub and whil turning up the volume it does not get louder, you are clipping it. The sub should sound clear, not muddy. If you've never tuned an amp before it is best to let a professional or someone who knows what they're doing tune it for you. Go to a local shop, they'll most likely do it for free
