El Churrumbe, dance tune from New Mexico, played by students from Will Rogers Elementary and John Adams Middle School in Santa Monica, CA. I practice with students for a few weeks and teach them about 8-10 tunes by ear and then they perform at the Cinco de Mayo festivals and the Topanga Banjo Fiddle Festival. The tunes are mainly from New Mexico and Arizona, several of them from the Guachi Fiddlers and rediscovered by Bayou Seco. Sounds authentic enough for Cinco the Mayo, especially when supplemented with a few classics like Cielito Lindo, and certainly exposes students to some real traditional music.

  • I like it! Would love to see a song list of simple mexican-style fiddle tunes.
