The Hon. David MacDonald's opening address at the Green Choices for Faith Communities Forum held on March 26 in Toronto. David MacDonald is a United Church Minister and a former Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister. In Parliament, he was the Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment from 1989 to 1993. Most recently, David was a member of World Council of Churches delegation to Copenhagen in 2009.
The Green Choices Forum was organized by the Green Awakening Network and Greening Sacred Spaces. The third annual forum featured workshops on faith buildings, community projects, advocacy, and spirituality, as well as an interfaith breakfast and worship service. The Forum highlighted the urgent need for humanity to take care of creation, the integral role of faith communities in this endeavour, and many of the practical tools to assist faith communities in their greening initiatives. Participants included representatives from a variety of faiths, including Christian, Jewish, and Muslim traditions.
